New Poll -- Bush Worst President Ever

Is George W. Bush twice as bad a Richard Nixon? Well, Dubbya tops the list of the worst Presidents in the last 61 years by twice as many mentions as Mr. Nixon. According to a nationwide poll of registered voters conducted by Quinnipiac University at the end of May, 34% said Bush was the worst. Nixon was second with 17%. President Clinton came in close behind with 16%. (But, more people thought Clinton was one of the best -- 25%. He came in a close second to Reagan on that list.)

One of the many results in this poll which I find hard to wrap my pudgy hands around, is that three-quarters of the Republican respondents think Bush is doing a bang-up job as President. I mean, seriously, what are these people thinking -- 74% say they approve of the job he is doing. When the question is limited to how he is doing handling the Iraq invasion and occupation, he only loses one percent of his Republican supporters -- 73% think he's doing just fine in Iraq. 76% of them still believe that invading Iraq was the right thing to do.

How's that? Who are these people?

Overall, Bush's job approval is still at toilet level -- 58% disapprove of the way he is handling himself and the country. On Iraq, 56% say it was the wrong thing to do and most (57%) want to see us reduce the troops or pull them out entirely (but 59% of Republicans want the troop level to stay the same or increase).
