Huck and Jim, which, not often enough, always gives us some smart observations of the goings-on in Washington, recently loosed on the Indian and the White House, a must read:
Remains to Be Seen
I drop acid a lot and think about history. Not the history ladled out by academics, though what with all the acid and thinking, I am a big reader too. No, the history that interests me is the weird stuff; that Geronimo, for example, viewed President McKinley's murdered body as it lay in state in Buffalo, New York in 1901. That sixteen years after that, Prescott Bush, the fatherand grandfather of presidents, bragged in a letter of stealingGeronimo's remains from a grave at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma and sendingthem to the Skull and Bones clubhouse in New Haven, Connecticut, the sleepy town where his squalid little grandson, the one who currently inhabits the White House, came into this world nearly sixty years ago.
Okay, maybe I don't drop *that* much acid, but everything else written above is true. The study of history is supposed to be an aid to understanding the present, I hear the brighter of my readers thinking, and you might rightly ask: so what's the big
deal with the indian?
To this my short answer is: You fuck with Geronimo at your peril.
